Education of primary care workers in Copenhagen REgion
In collaboration with the education committee under the Copenhagen Region diabetes committee, two course types have been developed. Employment in the primary care sector in Copenhagen Region is a prerequisite for participation.
ONE-DAY COURSE ON TYPE 2 DIABETES
The aim is to:
• optimize diabetes management in primary care of persons with type 2 diabetes
• optimize collaboration and communication between the primary and secondary care sector
The course includes
• Diagnoses
• Risk assessment
• Diabetes management
• Monitoring
• Who does what: the secondary sector versus the primary sector
• Presentation of the course venue
• Communication
The course is held four times a year and can accommodate approximately 30 participants. It is held at a local diabetes outpatient clinic, and staff from the clinic teach on the course. The teaching team also has a member of staff from the Steno Diabetes Center, and the primary care consultant also teaches on the course
HALF-DAY COURSE ON ADMINISTRATION OF INSULIN THERAPY, AND PREVENTIVE FOOTCARE
The aim is to:
• give primary care workers theoretical and practical information on starting insulin therapy in persons with type 2 diabetes
• educate primary care workers in preventive foot care
• optimize collaboration and communication between the primary and secondary care sector
The course includes:
• insulin therapies
• preventive foot care
• diabetes monitoring
The half-day course is held four times a year at Steno Diabetes Center. The teaching team is made up of a chief physician, a specialist diabetes nurse, a podiatrist and a primary care consultant.
