Quality tool from Steno helps to build capacity among Indian doctors
Steno Diabetes Center has developed a new PC tool to help doctors improve quality of care in India. The new tool is called Steno Quality Assurance Tool or simply SQAT.

Steno gathers doctors from 26 countries
160 doctors from 26 countries attended the Steno Symposium 2011, which focused on the latest research within early detection, prevention and treatment of diabetes complications.

Ingrid Willaing nominated to the National Board of Prevention
Head of patient education at Steno Center for Health Promotion, Ingrid Williang, takes up the post as member of the National Board of Prevention in Denmark for a period of four years.The National Board of Prevention is set up by Bertel Haarder, Minister of Internal Affiars and Health.The purpose of the board is to actively engage in the public debate within prevention and health promotion and to inspire public health authorities in charge of prevention-related work.

   

Ingrid Willaing says: "It is with great pride that I take up the position as member of National Board of Prevention. I wish to contribute with the latest practice-related research within patient education, prevention and health promotion - not least to prevent chronic disease in Denmark. We experience today an increasing demand for a concerted effort within the area."
The National Board of Prevention consists of 13 members with different experiences within public health and practice-related prevention work. The aim is to improve the health of the Danish people and to prolong life expectancy. Therefore, the board has a special focus on the area of lifestyle and must pay attention to important areas such as children and youth, social inequality in health and on how the individual repsonsibility for health can be strenghtened.

New Head of Steno Diabetes Center
Professor John Nolan has been appointed new CEO and head of Steno Diabetes Center.

An Irish national, John Nolan holds a Medical Degree from University College Dublin. Following international fellowships in Denmark and the US, he returned to his home country where he founded what has since become the largest and most recognised diabetes clinic in Ireland. Located at St. James’s Hospital in Dublin, the clinic today treats more than 9,000 diabetes patients.

Alongside the clinic, John Nolan has built up a research department focusing on clinical pathophysiology and new therapies for diabetes. He is also affiliated with Trinity College Dublin where he teaches and instructs medical and postgraduate students.  


John Nolan has been an executive board member of EASD since 2006, in which capacity he has been chair of international postgraduate education. He has recently been appointed deputy editor of Diabetologia.

“I am certain that all those who have had the pleasure of meeting and working with John will agree that with his patient focus, ambition level, as well as his excellent skills in stakeholder engagement and partnering, Professor John Nolan will be the right leader to make Steno a Global Centre of Excellence for Treatment and Prevention of Diabetes”, says chairman of the SDC Board of Directors Lise Kingo.

John Nolan will effectively take up his new position on 1 January 2011.
