Laboratory technician


Approximately 25 laboratory technician are employed in the clinical biochemistry department; this includes a chief laboratory technivian, a laboratory coordinator and a systems coordinator.




The department’s profile
The department primarily services the outpatient ward, the outpatient clinic and the research area at Steno Diabetes Center. In addition, analyses are done for other hospitals in the Capital Region of Denmark. Diabetes-related analyses such as Insulin, C-peptide, Proinsulin, Insulin antibodies and HbA1c are carried out and sold to Danish and foreign hospitals.

Quality assurance and statistics
The laboratory technicians work with the laboratory’s IT-system LABKA. This work includes working up, performing backup and maintenance of the system. From LABKA, analysis results are extracted for the EMR (electronic medical record). The laboratory technicians produce production statistics and perform quality assurance on all analyses with data gathered from LABKA. The laboratory participates in various national and international programmes for quality assurance.

In 2009 the laboratory has been accredited under standard DS 15189, which has been specially developed to cover laboratories within the health care system.

Project participation
In collaboration with practitioners and researchers, the laboratory technicians  participate in projects and medical trials that include examination of persons with and without diabetes.

Every year, the clinical biochemistry department performs approximately 350,000 analyses.
