General information

Here we have collected general information:

Access for the disabled
In front of the entrance to the outpatient clinic there are three parking spaces for the disabled, and in front of the entrance door we have a rail for wheelchair-users. We have wheelchairs for use during visits. There is a lift to the first floor, where the clinical physiological department and the research laboratory are situated.

Documentation
We document in the electronic patient record, and all your data are therefore always available at your visit. After a visit to the outpatient clinic you receive a print out of your medicine list and the status sheet which gives a status of your diabetes treatment: blood test answers, diabetes treatments and other medicine. Status of feet, status of eyes, lifestyle, etc. A further description may be found in the waiting area.

Food and beverages during your visit to the outpatient clinic
During your visit to the outpatient clinic we offer complimentary tea, coffee and water. There is a vending machine offering very reasonably priced sandwiches, fruit and salad foods. The nurse at the small desk will help you if needed.

Lost property

If you forgot something for example your umbrella at your last visit, the nurse at the small desk can help you. Lost property is kept here for a couple of months, after which it is kept in Administration on the 2th floor in the hospital building.

Making an appointment
If the agreed time does not suit you, please call us so that we can make the time available for another patient and find a new time for you.
We know that it is difficult to get through to us on Mondays, so if the appointment that is to be cancelled/rebooked is not that particular Monday, please contact us at a different time.

Every day we experience patients who do not show up for their appointments and who have not contacted us to cancel. This means that some therapists wait in vain while other patients have difficulty in getting an appointment. Please therefore cancel appointments in good time.

Participation in research projects
We do a lot of research at Steno Diabetes Center, and therefore many patients are invited to participate in a research project. Participation is voluntary. Visits to the research laboratory can take place concurrently with the other visits in the outpatient clinic. Both present and future patients can benefit from the results of all research projects. We have many examples of results being implemented in our treatment.

Statistics
Like the other diabetes departments in Denmark we report to NIP diabetes, which is the national indicator project. The results can be read at www.sundhed.dk  When there is a new report to be read, this is highlighted in our news bulletin.

Waiting time in the outpatient clinic
Even though we try to minimize waiting time in the outpatient clinic, it does nevertheless occur. We aim for our patients to be able to combine their visits and see more than one therapist on the same day. Waiting times may therefore occur between the visits to the various therapists. Waiting time between the laboratory and having your eyes dripped and your visit to the therapist must always be expected. This time is used to analyse blood tests and/or the expansion of your pupils.

The nurse at the small desk will be able to tell you how long the waiting time will be. It depends on the number of visits and on the work programme of the therapist in question. The waiting time can be minimized by distributing the visits over a number of days. It is up to the individual patient to choose what form is the most suitable.
