Programme
What happens during a typical hospital stay
- The duty doctor establishes the patient’s medical record
- Blood samples are taken and the patient is examined
- The patient has an admission consultation with the nurse where joint goals are set for the hospital stay and one-to-one education and guidance are planned
- The patient has a consultation with the dietician and receives dietary guidance and one-to-one education
- Doctors’ rounds are twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays
Group education
In addition to the standard education programmes, two group education sessions are offered each week. The sessions are based on the participants’ needs and requests.
- Dietary advice from the dietician
- Education from the specialist diabetes nurse
Theme weeks
Each year, two theme weeks are arranged. People with the same diabetes-related problems are offered a hospital stay where they receive education and treatment. Hospital referrals are made by the practitioners in Steno. The theme weeks are planned and run by a multidisciplinary team consisting of a chief physician, a registrar, a specialist diabetes nurse, a clinical dietician and a laboratory technician.
