Two, three or five day diabetes education courses for health professionals

The course focuses on many important aspects of diabetes management such as insulin treatment, foot care, nutrition, chronic complication, pregnancy, education and psycho-social problems commonly associated with diabetes. The course tries to increase the participants’ understanding of issues regarding living with a chronic disease. The course is planned to suit local needs; we also collaborate with local associations and mentor local facilitators if needed.

Goals
To increase knowledge of diabetes, with special attention on early recognition of the disease and diabetes management with special focus on type2 diabetes.
To increase theoretical and practical knowledge of insulin and other therapies and to facilitate their use in primary care.
To improve the participants’ understanding of the psychosocial impact, diabetes may have on the life of an individual with diabetes.

Teaching strategy
The structure of the course is a combination of different working methods e.g. group work, case studies, lectures, roll play, workshops, and plenary discussion. It offers the participants the opportunity to practice various techniques.

Target group
The course is for multidisciplinary health professionals (nurses, assistant nurses, dieticians, and podiatrist).

The Education Team
The team from Denmark comprises of a course coordinator who is a diabetes educator and dietician and two diabetes specialist nurses. We also have local facilitators, who are health professionals working in the field of diabetes.
