Treatment

Steno Diabetes Center is a specialised hospital that treats people with diabetes. For us it is important to offer treatment and service of high quality and to teach and give guidance so that our patients become able to manage their diabetes.

Facts about treatment
• We treat about 6200 patients, roughly 800 of whom attend our Diabetes Unit at Rigshospitalet
• We receive people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes from 16 years of age for examination and treatment
• We have about 25,000 visits annually in the outpatient clinic
• On average the patient sees 2-3 different cross-disciplinary therapists at each visit, since we try to concentrate as many visits as possible into the same day
• We offer short-term admissions to our day-bed unit
• We use fully implemented electronic medcial records (EMR)

The management of the outpatient clinic consists of
Thomas Almdal, manager of the outpatient clinic
Kirsten Engelhard Nielsen, Head Nurse
Merete Frandsen, chief laboratoy technician
Susanne Mittag, chief medical secretary
Bettina Ewers, Head of Nutrition

The nurse counselling service is open daily from 8 am to 10 am and from 1 pm to 3 pm Monday to Thursday. A diabetes nurse is sitting by the phone and she'll answer your questions about diabetes treatment, blood glucose, diabetes regulation and adjustment of insulin.
